I'm back cross-stitching

 

Well, not yet, but real soon because my daughter found a Halloween cross-stitch booklet that I thought I lost forever. So my plans are to make some of the stocking ornaments from Blackbird Designs. I took a break from cross-stitching, I think I just got burned out. Plus I have a lot of finishing to do and I just needed a break. In the mean time I have been making other things and sewing more and I'll share them here.

But I do have a cross-stitch finish to share, well I have quite a few, but I'll show off this one for now. This a needlebook, the pattern is from Punch Needle and Primitive Stitchery magazine.

My two latest projects are two reversible boxed totes from veryshannon.com. These came out very nice, and the second one is for my daughter and she loved it!

August, September and October stitching

Okay, I really need to do some catching up here. I have done a lot of stitching, mostly trying to finish up my wips. I have so many that need to be framed. I have tried framing on my own, but I'm not very good at it and it's hard to find the right frame.

My August finishes are Deux Oiseaux and In My Garden by Blackbird Designs. These are from the Ooh La La and the Sewing Club cross-stitch books. I hope I can get these framed soon!

I have no finishes for September, I spent the month trying to finish up When Witches go Riding by the Prairie Schooler, which I finished in October. I can't remember the fabric I stitched it on, but it was not easy. I'm glad I finished it! I think it's 28 count Heartland. Sorry, not the best picture, and yes the wall is green.

I've been working for weeks on Mighty Acorn by Blackbird Designs, which is getting close to being done. I just need to finish up the border and a few little areas. 

I have since started a few autumn smalls, which I may or may not be done this month and then I'll be stitching my Christmas wips. I only have a few left. I finished the Twelve Days of Christmas ornaments by Satsuma Street Designs. They still need to be fully finished, not my favorite part of cross-stitching.

May projects and plans

Well, I've been busy with Stitchmaynia and a little late on posting my progress. I started 6 new projects and now I'm going to revisit some of my WIPs from last year. Today I'll be stitching "When Witches Go Riding" by the Prairie Schooler.

Okay, here's the quick run down of my Stitchmaynia starts. First up is Autumn Hill by Plum Street Samplers. I gave myself three days and then I moved on to the next project.

Next was Jardin Prive's "La Nature est mon Atelier" stitched on 28 count Monaco and the called for DMC floss.

My third start, "In My Garden" by Black Bird Designs, stitched on 28 count Monaco and I used DMC floss. This is suppose to be a pin cushion, if you can see in the book cover photo. I'm a little scared to cut it up when I finish, might be easier to frame when I'm finished.

Fourth start, "Tomato Time Needlebook" designed by Eszter Marjanovic, this pattern was in last Summer's Punch Needle and Primitive Stitching Magazine. I can't wait until I finish this one as a needlebook, it's going to be so cute! I stitched it on 16 count French Lace Aida and DMC floss.

Autumn Sound by Black Bird Designs. I was able to finish this one, inspite of all the color changes. I think this one came out really nice. 

And my last one is Mighty Acorn by Blackbird Designs. I really love their patterns! I love samplers, so I plan on stitching more. This is also stitched on 28 count Monaco, I'm using the Weeks Dye Works floss that's called for on the chart. Except for the border, I used DMC 869.

Halloween cross-stitch

I didn't get a chance to post about my Halloween finishes, which were fun to stitch and I'm surprised that I got these done. I was also stitching When Witches Go Riding by Prairie Schooler, but I didn't get that one finished. So I'll put that away for now.

Halloween Mix & Match by Lori Holt.

I didn't have all the original block patterns, instead I substituted other blocks from her other cross-stitch patterns, but I used the color palette for this pattern. I love how it turned out. Stitched on 14 count oatmeal Aida, DMC floss.

Happy Halloween by Silver Creek Samplers.

I found this pattern in a back issue of Just Cross Stitch magazine, but I saw that this pattern is still available at Fat Quarter Shop. I stitched this on 18 count oatmeal Aida, DMC floss.

Spooky by Heart in Hand.

This is a free pattern from their newsletter. It's a quick stitch and I probably could have it done in a day, but it took me three days. Stitched on 28 count Monaco, DMC and Classic Colorworks floss

Field Mouse Hollow designed by Brenda Gervais.

 

Actually, I finished this last year, but I forgot to add the shoe laces! I posted on instagram as a finish! So technically I finished it this year, haha. For the laces, it called for Weeks Dye Works pearl cotton in Light Khaki, which I didn't have. I have DMC 676 pearl cotton, so I that's what I used. It's a gold color. Stitched on 28 count Monaco, I used a combination of DMC and Classic Colorworks floss.

August stitching and some haul

Hello, back again with some wips that I've been working on the past few weeks, since now that I'm in the mood to stitch autumn colors. I started these last year and I really want to get them done this year, I can only hope. I also have some charts and books that I recently bought, yay!

I'll be stitching the very large pumpkin she's standing on soon. I don't think I'll have this one done this year, but you never know.

Today I'm working on Be Thankful by Country Cottage Needleworks. I didn't get very much done when I started this last year, but last night I worked on the letters and it looks like I'm going to change the top border, from DMC 433 and use the other called for color, Classic Colorworks Roasted Chestnut. Hopefully I can get the top portion done tonight and then start on the pumpkins tomorrow.

Some of the books I bought were Blackbird Designs Sewing Club, Ooh La La, and Home For the Holidays. I can't wait to get started on some of the charts. Also, His and Hers Thanksgiving by Plum Street Samplers. I might have to drop everything and start on those! Love the stocking!

Oh, and another one is When Witches Go Riding by the Prairie Schooler, I'm surprised I don't have any Halloween projects started, so this might be my one to start. I also received the new Halloween issue of Just Cross Stitch magazine. There are so many fun projects in that issue. Also I'm anxious to get this one started that I found in the 2013 Halloween issue. She's so cute!

Finally finished Witch Ride?

Although this has been done for weeks, I finally finished it to hang. It came out pretty cute. This is Witch Ride? by Barbara Ana Designs. I stitched it on coffee-tea dyed 14 count Aida with DMC floss. I mounted it on foam core and then glued on to fabric covered sticky board. I hot glued the ruffle. The Halloween fabric is from Riley Blake Designs. I love it!

I have another Halloween cross-stitch to finally finish and add to my other decorations. Hopefully, I'll have it done today and ready to share tomorrow.

A finish and some more wips

Yes, I have a finish to share, plus some other projects I'm working on.

I finished the August Cottage from Country Cottage Needleworks. I trimmed it with a ruffle I made. Actually, it looks like pleats. I wanted to use a blue gingham, but after making the ruffle, it was no way, it looked to babyish and I had to find something else in my stash. Since I already had the ruffle attachment on my machine (which is another story) I was on a ruffle roll. 

I spent the afternoon trying to get my ruffle attachment to work, I mean I've done it before many, many years ago, but this is a new attachment and a very different machine. But once I got it figured out, after trial and error, it was easy. I did a lot of practicing and viewing a lot of videos, and I did it! I know it would have been a lot quicker and easier if I made the ruffle by hand, but I bought this attachment a couple of years ago and I was determined to take it out of it's package and use it for the first time.

I have been working on two other projects this month. The Red Wagon with Tree from Home for the Holidays by Sue Hillis Designs, but I stopped because it was taking me too long and I was making a lot of mistakes. I don't know why I chose to stitch on linen, it's 32 count Belfast and my first time stitching on a smaller stitch count. I'll get back to it later, but I want to get some other ones done first.

And the other one I'm working on is Witch Ride? by Barbara Ana Designs. I started this during Stitch Maynia. I was hoping I would have it done today, but I got hung up yesterday with finishing the August Cottage. I love the colors of the cup, the layers of colors looks very cool. Maybe I'll have it done tomorrow. Then I can finish Field Mouse Hollow before Halloween. I know, I have a lot of  fall and winter projects to get to, yikes!

Stitch Maynia Day 9, Field Mouse Hollow

Hello again. I'm so excited to get started on this one. This is one of my first pattern purchases when I got back into cross-stitching again in the fall of last year. This is Field Mouse Hollow from With Thy Needle and Thread, designed by Brenda Gervais. Anyway, I already screwed up, so I'll have to rip out the stem and leaves. I was anxious to get started on the mouse, but I didn't like the color of the floss for the mouse, so I jumped over to the dress. Well, I counted wrong and now I'll have to redo the stem and leaves. Ugh. I'm converting Classic Colorworks to DMC and the color for the mice didn't look correct. So I'll have to find something I like.

Also part of the problem is that as soon as I get up in the morning I make my coffee and start stitching. Maybe I should drink a cup before I start, because I tend to make mistakes when I start so early, around 6:30 am.

Stitch Maynia Day 6 Witch Ride?

Okay, for a little project this one was a little difficult for me. I'm glad I chose Aida, because I had trouble reading the chart. It's a pdf from Punch Needle and Primitive Stitcher magazine, so it's probably my printer that's messed up the print. I think I can just wing it by looking at the colors in the photograph. Luckily, it's not large and I shouldn't have any problems getting it finished. It's going to be so cute! This is stitched on 14 count Aida, also coffee-tea dyed, and i used DMC floss. This is from Barbara Ana Designs.

This morning I worked a couple of hours on my Day 7 project and I'll stitch some more tonight. Today I also sewed a little on my project bags. The zipper part is done. Hopefully, I'll have two bags done tomorrow. I love making those bags, it's just hard to squeeze in the time to sew.

Another Halloween treat bag and card

Okay, this is it for Halloween, but I just wanted to make a quick post and share two more projects I made last week. I used the Spooky Fun stamps and framelits again, to make this card and treat bag. This time I didn't use the Gift Bag Punch Board to make the treat bag, I used my Stampin' Trimmer (or you can use the Simply Scored Scoring Tool). As you can see in the photo the treat bag is wider at the bottom.

I was inspired to make this cute, little bag by Pootles Papercraft. You can find her instructions there, better than I can explain it here. It's such a cute bag and I look forward to making more like these, great for table party favors, too.
