August Sewing and some cards

I hope you are doing well. I've been busy working on my Cozy Christmas blocks from Lori Holt's Cozy Christmas Sew Along from 2016. I started this year, but I should have been a lot further along, I'm just finishing block 8. I'm getting a little nervous when I start to put these blocks together, though. My earlier blocks don't seem to be the same size as the current ones. I have a funny feeling I will have adjust them some how.

I'll post Blocks 7 and 8 tomorrow, I just need to do a little embroidery and they will be done. Yay!

I also made a few cards, which I had already posted on facebook, but I also made a stack of bookmarks for my etsy customers. Oh yeah, handmade note cards, too. These cards are a "one sheet wonder" from a 6x6 paperstack, Garden Impressions DSP paperstack and Petal Palette stamp set from Stampin' UP!. In the meantime, I've been interested in sewing clothes (again!). After looking at sewing blogs and watching youtube videos, I have been inspired to sew a few tops/blouses. I used to sew for myself and my daughter many, many years ago and thought I would never do that again. Well, never say never! It's not that I didn't enjoy it, just that it was so much easier to buy your own clothes. Well, my attitude is different now and my overall situation is different, too, that it seems it would be nice to sew for myself again. Anyway, I picked up some patterns at Joann's and we'll see. I do have to learn how to do some fitting adjustments, because that is what my problem was before. It will be fun to make a few simple tops and casual wear. No pressure on myself, we'll just see what works.

Wildflower Wishes - Paper Pumpkin

Hello, todays' card share is from February Paper Pumpkin kit. It's so pretty. I whipped these three cards up in no time. I love these cards.

On a side note, I have started another quilt. I know, I know, I need to finish the other quilt I was working on a year or so ago, but I need to practice free-motion quilting first. Anyway, about the quilt I'm currently working on, I had bought the fabrics and templates over a year ago. I wanted to do the sew along, but last year got a little hectic for our family and I just couldn't get into any big projects. So, now I am sewing at my own pace. So far I have all the applique pieces traced and cut, now it's on to applique and cutting the borders and the rest of it. It's a Christmas quilt from Lori Holt's blog, Cozy Christmas. So I'll be sharing my adventures in quilting, or at least me appliqueing and putting blocks together. It's been quite awhile since I've done any kind of sewing. I'm excited! Yay!

Happy Thanksgiving

Just another quick post before I head off to bed. I better get some rest because I'm sure my Mom will put me to work tomorrow. We are up here in Sacramento visiting my family. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.

Here's a photo of the mini quilt I sent to my cousin of her parents on their wedding day. She recieved it yesterday in the mail and was so excited when she called me, because she had just visited her Dad's gravesite. So this absolutely made her day! I had also printed a quote to sew on the quilt, but I messed up on the spelling and decided it didn't need one.

Me, the busy little bee

Sorry, I feel bad for not updating lately, it's just been one of those months already! Anyway, I've had my new sewing machine for almost one week (I love it!) and finally took it out from it's new trolley and sewed a little bit today. I went to my first class on Thursday and it was great. I used different feet and stitches, you know the basics. In November there is a heirloom sewing class that I'm looking forward to.

I started a Halloween wallhanging quilt many moons ago. When I use to watch "Simply Quilts" (that's a long time ago), there was one guest, Saundra Seth, that gave directions on how to make this wall hanging or you can easily make it as tote bag. I fell in love and it looked easy enough. Like most projects I start, I started plotting, planning and putting this darling little quilt together and then my enthusiasm ran out before Halloween.

Then every year after that I would think about it and want to finish, but to no avail. So hopefully this year is the year, I've only a few weeks to finish and enjoy it. Actually, I see a lot of flaws on my little quilt. There are some methods I know I would do differently now, but since I want to start using my machine and finish up some projects, now is a good time. Besides I need to get some practice time on my new machine. I'll have some photos up soon, at least ones that are labeled "work in progress".

Also, I've joined twitter a few weeks ago and twitter moms. Although, I try to visit at least once a night, I don't stick around very long, it can be addicting and I just don't have alot of time and I'm not that interesting, or maybe just don't have alot to say. Although, there are some very nice moms online and can be fun if you have time.

A few scrap quilts

All Sewed Up

I think this is one of my first quilts, it's a wall hanging that I pieced together from scraps. I made it so long ago, I wished I dated it, maybe 10 or more years ago. It's from one of Debbie Mumm's quilt books, I was a big fan back then. I made it for my sewing room, but after I completed it, it didn't hang properly off the wall, a little wonky in some places. I must have quilted it wrong or something. I machine quilted it the easiest way possible. Lately it's been stored with my other quilts.

Actually, maybe this one is my first quilt?? Now I realize the importance of dating your quilts. It's also made of scraps, I remember going to town cutting 3-inch squares and making 9 patches and then voila, a quilt! I kind of didn't know which way I was going with this one, I was just making squares. I wished I made wider borders, though. I think I'm going to start a quilt journal.

Quilt Month

I've joined mr. monkeysuit's quilt month. I thought it would inspire me to get back into quilting which I have put on the back burner long enough. I'm ashamed to say I haven't completed many quilts. In fact I've never really made a true quilt. You know the large ones that you can throw on your bed. I always have these grand ideas and then make a bunch of blocks and then . . . . what happened? They are burried beneath my stash of fabrics.

I've made plenty of wallhangings or lap quilts and a few doll quilts when I use to make dolls. Actually, I thought these two were sent off to the Goodwill, but I found them in the bottom of my stash bin. I'm glad there were there.

I still have my quilt blocks that I put away years ago, thinking some day I will get back to my quilts. I think I'm over my "non-quilting" phase. I've seen so many wonderful quilts that I'm now inspired again! Yay!! I have more to share but I will leave it for the next day or two.

My mind is going crazy with alot of projects I want to make and finish. I'm happy to come across so many beautiful quilting blogs and reminded of my long lost passion. Thank you! I'm a little intimidated about making a large quilt, but I think it's about time to turn those blocks into something fabulous! Stay tuned . . . .

Wow, I can't believe it's been 2 weeks since my last post and October is already here! Life has been busy! I had to work split shifts last week and then again next week. Besides that a little crazy at work, then we ended up in ER Saturday night with my daughter over a cut finger, but it was a deep cut and a trash can was involved. So we thought it was best to take her to the hospital so she can also get a tetanus shot. We didn't get home until 2am! Anyway, all is well. I have been sewing here and there during the week, no major projects. Finished my Cabo Halter Top weeks ago, just never got around to taking a pic. I'm currently working on another storage case for my daughter. She made another diaper bag with changing pad for a friend and needs the changing pad storage case to go with it. I only have to sew the drawstrings and I'm done.


We went to Sowing Sisters in Carlsbad last week and I bought this beautiful Asian panel. I think it's basically for quilts, but I want to make a purse out of it. On the subject of quilts, I have been quietly reading quilting magazines and visiting quilting websites, so you'll never know what I'll be stitching up next! I use to make lap quilts and wall-hangings and thought I was finished with that phase, but maybe not.
