Kitchen remodel ... work in progress

As promised, here are some photos of our kitchen project. So nice to be able to have someone to do the work, because we would be clueless. As I am typing this, our brand new cabinets are being installed, yay! Anyway, here are some before pics:

Just your basic kitchen that desperately needed an update. Drawers broken and then removed, dishwasher died months ago and the first to go, sliding glass door that was just a pain in the ass to open, and sadly my range that is less than a year old, sigh. We're going with stainless steel so it has to go.

After demolition:
As you can see a new door and window is installed and windowsill is raised. It's starting to take shape. I love the new lights above!

In the meantime I've been doing some major decluttering .... that was the nightmare part of this project. I don't know how many times I went to Home Depot for boxes. Then to drop of goods at our local AmVets for donation. It took me at least a week to declutter and pack all the stuff in the kitchen and finding new homes for the furniture. The rest of our house is upside down. We have two other rooms that are getting a little bit of a change, too. Yes, it's a little crazy around here, but we're close to finish and so far no major problems (crossing my fingers).

Good-bye old cookbooks!

Thanks for stopping by and I'll return with more photo updates and hopefully I'll be crafting and cooking soon!

Week 2: Kitchen Remodel

It has been coming along nicely. Can't believe that we're really having it done. The kitchen is totally gutted, we have a new door and window installed. Lights are in and some of the electrical work is complete. Prime and paint starts tomorrow. Cabinets should be delivered on Thursday and installed on Friday. Our appliances will be delivered on Saturday. Then the cabinets will be measured for counter tops next week. Floor tile gets going around that time, too. Actually, it's moving along pretty quickly, quicker than I thought. Our contractor is great and keeps me informed on what's happening all the time.

Not only the kitchen is being remodeled, but we're having a wall put up between the living room and office, like it was when we bought our house, creating a fourth bedroom again (forget the office what a waste of space that was). Hmmm, room for more guests, or just more sewing space! Plus we had the popcorn ceiling removed, ugh I always hated that stuff!!

So it's been pretty busy around here, but I haven't gone crazy yet. Our house is a mess and it's a little bit of a challenge to fix dinner, but we manage and I guess I prepared myself that this is the way it's going to be for a while. All my kitchen gadgets and electrical appliances have come into full force! Just ordered this cookbook, hope it will be useful, The Gourmet Toaster Oven.

Enjoy what's left of your weekend and I'll be back with some work in progress pics!

Hello, and so sorry ...

I know it's been a long time since I've posted, but my life has just gone into warp speed, okay I'm exagerating a bit, but it's been terribly hectic (and I might add stressful) for me, but at the same time I'm so excited! I'm finally getting a new kitchen!! It's sort of a long story, no not really, but we have been putting it off for a very long time. The homes in our neighborhood were built with faulty plumbing and we knew we had to replace them before we took on any major decorating and remodeling projects. Well, we finally got our plumbing replaced, not as expensive as we thought, I think the timing was right. And now the ball has started rolling to get a "kitchen makeover", which I have been nagging for a very loooooong time! So lately it's been hubby and I talking and looking at cabinets, counters, lighting, tiles, appliances, and we are still not done! I use to look at magazines and watch HGTV, but never really thought about that I really could have the kitchen of my dreams. Well, let's be realistic, I can't! But I'm going to have something that we really love and is practical for me. I don't think I'll be in the kitchen alone anymore. The kitchen I have right now is very inadequate for someone who loves to cook and would love to entertain and be around family and friends, but too embarassed in this raggedy old kitchen! I'll be posting some pictures as soon as I get my packing done. Our contractor comes in Monday morning and starts demolition. Yikes!

We love those cabinets!

I'm back cross-stitching

Well, not yet, but real soon because my daughter found a Halloween cross-stitch booklet that I thought I lost forever. So my plans are to ...
