Happy Halloween!

Here I am waiting for the trick or treaters, it's still early and they're coming in slow. I don't think I will have many this year. It seems like as the years go by the numbers go down. Maybe parents are doing other things with their children. Anyway, most of my kids from work know where I live, so I'll be expecting them soon. Oh, this morning they were all excited, most were wearing their costumes and just basically running around the room a little extra wound up than usual. I couldn't wait to get them outside to run off that energy! The morning went by fast, I decorated cookies with them. I was being my crafty self and showed them how to decorate them "cake decorating" style. I brought in my cake decorating supplies and showed them how to pipe the icing onto the cookies. It was fun! I wish I had my camera, it would be nice to share pictures of the kids and their cookies. Another one of my crafty adventures, I took cake decorating classes at Michael's a few years back and I bought all the gadgets I would need to decorate cakes. I learned alot and it was alot of fun. I usually share these types of projects with the kids during the holidays, though.

As for my weekend, it just flew by. I went to a baby shower on Saturday afternoon. It was at the Olive Garden and the food was delicious! I saw a few of my good friends that I haven't seen in a long time, hopefully we'll be able to get together soon. My one friend is into stamping and wants me to come to her stamping group next week. Here we go again, another craft to get involved in. I need that like I need a hole in the head! I did buy some stamps a few months back, but I haven't touched them. So here's my opportunity.

Okay, the doorbell is ringing . . . . have a great evening! Be safe.

Gained .2 lb.

Weigh-in today was okay, considering it could be worse. Anyway, our leader said that .2 weight gain is "maintaining". Sounds good to me!

How easy was that!

Here's Snow White at age 5. (he-he)

Tip: Have your photos in a photo album and you can find them easily. Of course, I found other pages I would love to scan!!

Halloween Memories

This time of year always brings back memories of my daughter and I getting ready for Halloween going through patterns, picking and choosing patterns and fabric and then making her Halloween costume. My sewing machine was really busy back in those days when I wasn't working or working very little. I made her costume every year (usually from a pattern) until she went into middle school. Actually, no, I did make one costume when she was in the 6th grade and then that was the end of it. Funny, though, she called me over the weekend and was all excited that she had bought all the supplies for her costume for under $20. She had it all and was going to put it together that weekend - she's going to be a "skunk" - uh, okay. Anyway, I thought I would share one of my scrapbook pages I made a few years ago of pictures I had, I'm sad that I didn't take more pictures and better ones.

I love "Snow White", because I think she really looked like Snow White! She was also Olive Oyl and then the Queen of Hearts. She didn't like the Queen of Hearts. It was fine at first, but once she got the costume on and she was walking with it, she was miserable. And then a young boy laughed at her and then she really wanted that costume off! Of course, she also wanted "tricks or treats", too, so she stuck with it. Of course, this year she's going to a party with friends from college and I pray that she's safe. At least, she's not driving and it's with her church group. I shouldn't worry. (sigh)

This is an old scan, I'm going to try to re-scan "Snow White", because I really love that picture and every copy on the computer I have is blurry. I have a newer scanner now, so I may have better luck.

Back on track

and CORE really does work! I've been going to Weight Watchers since Sept. 17th and it's coming off slowly, but that's okay!

So glad for Friday!

I'm glad this week is just about over. I haven't done anything crafty, much less been able to visit my favorite crafty blogs. I've come to the conlclusion that I need to not be such a nice person and stop subbing for everyone! The holidays are coming and working part-time for the next couple of months is just fine. So I have a few more commitments next week and in November and that's it. I'll just do my early morning job and that will be fine.

Oh, speaking of work, the most embarassing thing happened to me. My alarm clock didn't go off because we had a power outage during the night. I have to write this down so I can look back and laugh, but at the time it was not funny. I have to be at work at 6:30am and because it's childcare, I have quite a few parents that arrive with their children so they can go to work. Well, not good if the person who is watching their child is not there. I had some very upset parents waiting, the supervisor managed to get there before me. So it all worked out okay, even though late in opening. I apologized to them this morning, they figured it was the power outage. One dad said if it wasn't for his cell phone alarm he would have been running late, too. So now I need to figure out how to set my cell phone as a backup. I replaced the battery in my alarm clock. I hope that never happens to me again, that little fiasco pretty much ruined my whole day.

Yes, I'm so glad it's Friday!

Rain, rain, go away

Actually, no, we need the rain. I just hope it doesn't rain tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to spending the morning inside with 30+ children. Yikes! Here's the view to our backyard, looks pretty sad. I really didn't expect it to rain, I guess I wasn't paying attention to the weather reports.

Anyway, right now it's cozy inside, even though I'm home alone. I baked two cakes, but single layer cakes, that's enough. I made applesauce with most of my apples, and that was used as one of the ingredients for both cakes; the Applesauce Cake from King Arthur Flour website and the other is an Espresso Cake from somewhere in Weight Watcher land. It's supposed to be 1 point per serving, but sheesh, it serves 14! I guess you get a sliver. They both smell delicious. I'll sample the Espresso Cake later. DD left earlier, so looks like I'll be taking cakes to work tomorrow. I know the children will enjoy.

Early morning ramblings

I thought I would post a bit since I'm up early and on the computer checking email, etc. Dh is leaving this morning, so I'll have the day to myself, cleaning and grocery shopping are a priority. I didn't get much done yesterday, after the movie I went to Loew's looking for replacement parts to our sprinkler system. I hate going into stores where I don't belong, plus the help was scarce, but I found what we needed and was out of there quickly. Dh was able to fix the sprinkler last night, now there won't be this huge fountain of water at our front door! He-he, our neighbor offered to fix it or at least turn the water off. I said "that's okay, we'll take care"-- yeah, a month later!

DD is still here, she'll be leaving later today. We enjoyed the movie yesterday, "Elizabethtown". Definately a chic's movie, very cute. It was one of those "feel-good" movies, I like the family coming together, it kind of reminded of our family get-togethers. We haven't had one in a long time, usually weddings we're able to see each other, and it's been an awfully long time since we had a funeral (well, that I have been able to go to) or a family reunion.

Okay, enough. I need to get to my chores, ugh.

Bummed ....

Okay, I gained 1.8 pounds. Oh well, I'm going to get over it and move on. It could be many reasons why, but it's a new week and I'll manage. My cousin and I stayed after the meeting and did a little shopping. I bought the TurnAround Cookbook and a quicktrack diary. So I'll be trying out some different recipes while dh is away. I'm still going to make something yummy with those apples. Oh, dd surprised us and came home yesterday! So she can take away any baking that I manage to create this weekend. She wants to see "ElizabethTown" today. So that will be fun. I do have alot of things to do today, but I want to spend time with her instead. I'll be alone for a few days and I need to do something fun before the weekend is over. Today, I do need to get dh sorted out and packed for his trip.

Last night we went out to dinner, TGIFriday's. It was packed and the staff advised us to sit out in the patio if we wanted to be seated sooner. So we did, although it was a little cool and breezy (not far from the ocean) it was pleasant and not as noisy, as it was inside. I had the chicken, salad and ice tea, but dd had this wonderful Cinnabon Cheesecake! I had a few bites and that was enough, very sweet, but delicious!

Okay, enough of my rambling. I've got a full weekend ahead and I need to get busy. I know by Sunday evening I'll be able to sit and relax and stitch. Oh, I almost forgot! I also did a little early morning shopping online (6am!) and purchased an out of print book I saw on Bella Dia's blog. I love some of the images she posted, that I just had to get that book! I can't wait until it arrives. It's called Stitchery; free expression: fabrics, stitches, designs.

Have a great day!

Almost Friday

Today is one of those days with not much to post about, I'm just glad tomorrow is Friday and I have nothing planned this weekend. I'll stick around the house and try to get things done. I was behind in many things this week and not having my usual extra hours to myself didn't help matters. Next week is going to be another busy week, so I will try to be as creative as I can on Saturday and Sunday. I have found a couple of recipes I want to try and I want to work on my quilt blocks and cross-stitching. So we shall see how it goes.

Good night.

Random photos

Actually, these were taken over the summer. When I was at my Aunt's house on Saturday, she gave me extra copies of photos she took at my birthday party on July 17th. Yes, I turned 50 on that day! I can't believe I'm that old! Disneyland and I celebrate our birthdays on the same day. My dh was thought he was real clever and threw a surprise party toboot! That's another story. Anyway, here's a pic of my cousin Glo and I. (I'm on the right)

Here's my dd enjoying herself. And then there's me blowing out all those candles and looking not too cute from the side view. Now that's an incentive to get some weight off.

Whew . . .

Okay, I'm re-inspired. I just spent the last hour and half reading my favorite bookmarked blogs that I like to read. Wow, everyone seems to be busy sewing, stitching, or just reading interesting books on crafts, while I've been working. Well, at least I get to read about it. I know I should have been stitching myself, but I can't get into it in the evenings. I think I'm just worn out from the day and my eyes aren't that great after the sun goes down.

Today was my errand day, you know, making phone calls, paying bills and then dashing off to the post office. Then I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to make some sense out of this office. I have piles of papers that need to be filed, a box load of stuff that really need to be shredded, but I should go through it first. So tomorrow, after I work my Avon, I will tackle this office. Plus get to the gym, because I didn't go today.

Next week I'll have a few days to myself, I probably will be able to do something constructive. Dh is going out of town on business for a few days, so I'll have to plan my time wisely and get all my chores out of the way by this weekend. It will be nice to stitch again, but I'm not crazy about being home alone.

Time for bed. Goodnight, all.

Monday and a little bit normal around here

Well, considering how hectic my mornings are, today was pretty good. Plus I didn't have to go back to work in the afternoon. Although I work for the school district (and it's a holiday) we still had to work today, it seemed like some of the parents had the day off and decided to take their children to school. Maybe that's why work seemed so easy going this morning. My dh had the day off, although he spent most of the day working on the computer, not much of a day off. My supervisor came back from her vacation. She brought me back some goodies from Hawaii. I thought that was really nice, I'm just glad she's back!

Anyway, when I came home my Avon fundraiser packages arrived. Boy, were the boxes beat up looking. At least all the product was there intact, a few little leaks, but nothing major. So I spent a couple of hours sorting that out and getting it all cleaned and bagged and ready to take to work. Later, I finally made it to the gym. I hope I'm not sore tomorrow. I thought I would have time for Pilates, but maybe tomorrow. I want to get back to my stitching, but I'm going to have to seriously organize my time, as well as my life. I feel like I'm going in all kinds of directions and not making any progress at anything. Yes, I know alot of my energy is spent at work, but there is no reason why I can't make things work at home. That is something I just need to work out, I guess.

It's late, so I'll turn in and maybe tomorrow things will change.

Ahhh, the weekend!

Did you ever have one of those weeks where you just want to quit your job? Well, this has been one of those weeks. I've been subbing extra hours while the site supervisor is on vacation and me working more than 4 hours is not good! As beautiful as children are, it's just not possible for this old bird! Actually, it's not all the children, it's just certain children who get under my skin and I just about want to scream. Anyway, Monday is a new day and I'll have a better attitude -- no more complaining this weekend.

Anyway, here are my results of this morning's weigh-in. So looks like I'm doing well, considereing some of my daily struggles. My dear cousin lost as well, so we are looking good!

After Weight Watchers, I took my car down for an oil change, dashed off to Starbuck's for my usual nonfat latte, went home and took care of some paper work and then off to the bank. I was northbound on I-5 by 10:00am to visit my dd and my aunt in Long Beach. I had such a fun time, my cousin G. was at my aunt's house and he had me in stitches! He works for Amtrak, and he was telling me stories of his trips across country working in different cars, first class vs. coach. He makes me laugh! He has such a great personality! Later I took my dd shopping and then out to lunch. I finally arrived back home around 7pm. Dh was chomping at the bit for dinner! (sorry, dear)

As for my crafts, I couldn't even think about it, because of work. Plus I just finished up a fundraiser and there is follow-up work to do. Hopefully, I'll get back into the swing of cross-stitching and such tomorrow. It will be Sunday and my day to relax.
Good night, everyone.

Small little victory ...

Another week has flown by and I made it. We weighed in this morning and I lost a pound and half, I'm happy with that. Weight Watcher's core plan isn't so bad, I find that I'm not as hungry as I use to be and I have lost those "bread" cravings, plus it's a healthy way of eating.

As for my stitching goals, forget it! Work is just getting in the way, and next week isn't getting any better. The site supervisor is going on vacation and I'm sort of running the show for the week. I hope next week goes by fast. This morning I'm meeting my co-worker at the library and we're going to check out books on our theme for next week, Earth Science Week. There is also a street fair that is next to the library on Saturdays, so we'll check that out. I've never been to it. Besides that, I hope to have my usual housecleaning done sometime this weekend. I have alot of Avon paperwork to do. This must be my lucky week, besides a fundraiser I'm doing (which helps me achieve my sales goal for the year), I have quite a few orders without even trying to sell Avon. That's good, because I'm a terrible sales person!

I think Sundays are my best days to sit and relax and do a little stitching. So I'm hoping I'll at least have progress pictures to post and return to blogging a little bit more next week.

Have a great day!

Hello, I'm Back

and no longer a Stampin' UP! demonstrator. It's a good thing, as much as I like sharing papercrafting and products, I found it hard ...
